Susannah was born 23 September 1835 in Uphall, Linlithgow, Scotland. Her father was William Goldthorp from Darton, Yorkshire, England and her mother Margaret Bryce from Maybole, Scotland. Somewhere around 1840 they moved back to Yorkshire because Susannah's younger siblings were born in Maplewell, Yorkshire, England. I think this is Susannah in the 1841 UK Census, but they spelled her name Susan and here she is in the 1870 and 1880 Census' with Thomas. Apparently Thomas's brother Henry married a Susannah, so if you look Susannah Heaps don't get confused. Here is Susannah in the 1900 Census living by herself working as a midwife, which is kinda weird they weren't living together. Here she is in the 1920 Census living with her youngest daughter Lillie and her family. Susannah died 16 August 1922 in Escalante, Utah, this means my Grandma Riding would have known her as a little girl!
They were married on 30 July 1854 in Stalincross, Yorkshire, England and were sealed in the Endowment House on 10 October 1870. Thomas and Susannah, and five of their children, crossed the plains in 1863 (August to October) with the Daniel D. McArthur Company.
