October 22nd Dear Diary

I have had the most bizarre day:

1. The fire hydrant outside my condo exploded. The cap on one of the sides was off and totally leaking water throughout the neighborhood, so no shower today, or doing dishes, etc…

2. I went to the hairdresser and she colored my hair a light brown. I have never been brown,
always blonde. Thanks to Heidi Truter Fourie I learned how to dye my hair. She is the brave one dying her hair red, blonde, brown, I have no idea what it will be next.

3. The taxi came a half hour early, while I was still packing my carry-on bag, then my Dad called to ask me which flight I was on, needless to say I was distracted. So when I finally got to the kiosk at Southwest check-in, I didn’t have my driver’s license. I had to run across the airport to get a taxi and go home to get the DL then back to airport.

4. After checking in, getting a sandwich, and calling Mom to say Dad owed me for the second taxi, I decided to go make sure my flight was on time. Ok, so the purpose of the trip is to go to the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) conference in Cleveland. The lady at the counter said that there was no flight to Cleveland at 6pm, but there was one to Columbus, Ohio. After verifying that yes I was on the flight to Columbus I called Mom back to mapquest how far away the two cities were, 2 hours. Not bad, I’ll just get a rental car and drive. Now don’t ask me why I booked it to Columbus, because I did it back in June, I have no idea, like I said... bizarre day.

5. So I called the hotel to tell them that I was going to be late, I find out I don’t even have a reservation at the hotel I thought I did. So I called Expedia to find out what happened, sure enough I am booked at Days Inn Cleveland Airport and not Days Inn Cleveland Downtown. This took 20 minutes, it’s a good thing the flight was delayed. I got her to cancel the wrong reservation, but she was unable to book the correct reservation, so I would have to do it… all… by… my… self.

6. Then I called to cancel my car rental in Cleveland and it took him 20 minutes. I was not having a good day with CS reps today. Plus he couldn’t book me a car in Columbus. (This is the point where you roll your eyes in disbelief!)

7. So I called my Mother back and in no time she had a hotel for me in Columbus for the night and was going to get me one for Cleveland, but I had to get on the plane. Why can’t CS reps be more like my helpful Mom.

So here I am on the plane trying to think of all the things I need to do when it lands. This has just been one bizarre day. I feel like this should be an episode of the Twilight Zone. Hopefully the rest of the trip is better!

8. I finally land in Columbus and get my Mother’s voicemail messages:
a. She got me the hotel I needed in Cleveland! Yippee!!
b. She found me a hotel for the night in Columbus, yeah sleep!
c. I did have to find my own car rental reservation, which ended up being cheaper than my original reservation. It took me 5 minutes, so you ask why even bother with calling the Travelocity when I can do it all online. And mapquest directions from Columbus to Cleveland.

p.s. I’ll add pictures when I finally download them.

My friend Monique sent me these hilarious pictures.

If you are thinking to yourself, "What is that?" This is what you call a Jeff Foxworthy joke.

Paris

I saw this great picture on Wikipedia of the Seine River in Paris. It reminded me of when I was in Paris with BYU's Ballroom Dance Company. We were driving to the theatre when we got stuck in traffic. When we came upon what was stopping traffic, it was some idiot who wanted to jump off one of the bridges (see picture below). Honestly the bridge was not that far from the river, they could've just let him jump, then catch him later instead of watching him want to jump. One day I'll get to go back. [hint, hint Mom.]

P.S. You can tell how much Corey loves me by his comments and blog post. ;)
