Olympic Torch

This morning the Olympic Torch Relay came to Walsall. I thought this was the second time I saw the torch, but my Mom reminded me it's the third, 1984, 2002, and today. Dave got picked to be an Olympic volunteer in the transportation department, so he might see some cool people!

The red-head is carrying the torch and the van in front is for the media.

They stopped and had lunch at the town hall.

The bus that holds the torches.

Today

This is what I did today:
-woke up late, made Dave take me to school
-at school: login to email and check where this meeting is suppose to be, no details, great!
-run around campus looking for everyone who is suppose to be in the meeting, no luck
-go back to office and check email for an update...there isn't one, but then one of the tech crew walks in and says they are in the biomechanics lab waiting for me (I had already check there)
-mtg: tech team reminds me to go to the first aid class in two weeks and they won't bug me about doing my research without a staff member babysitting me.
-stay long enough to do idle chit chat before I can leave without offending anyone
-back in the PhD students office and do a little bit of everything before next meeting
-meet with sound dude about waltz music
-eat lunch
-finished edits on bibliography review, hopefully this is the last time and I can finally submit for publication, email to Dr Wyon
-Yippee! Finished in time to catch the school bus to town so I don't have to walk home the whole way.
-stop at the bank to find out if I can send the money to register for the Kinesiology conference in Croatia, it's gonna cost £15 :(
-walk home
-take shower (see being late above for reason why this took so long)
-take nap
-check emails and facebook, respond to dancers about coming to lab to do more research
-make a cd with waltz music for my next meeting with the sound dude
-kiss Dave before he goes to work
-finish edits for female dancer survey, resist the urge to email it to committee and do a happy dance
-make food from left overs
-write blog post (in progress)
-then go to bed

This is what PhD students do in the summer, even though the weather is not summery right now.

Stake Conference

This weekend is Stake Conference. Tonight Dave and I went to the Saturday evening session where Elder Teixeira from Portugal spoke. I was surprised that he spoke English with a very American accent with a hint of Portuguese.
Mainly Dave and I commented that two years ago when we went to the Saturday evening session of Stake Conference we had just started dating. That night was really warm, so we ate outside at a restaurant in Lichfield (where the stake center is). This summer has been cold enough that some people have turned their heating back on. I have been wearing sweaters around the house and my winter pj's. I really can't wait until we move back to Utah and have really warm summers and July 4th/Independence Day celebrations!

Father's Day

Dave was asked to speak yesterday in Sacrament Meeting on Fathers. He felt inadequate to speak on dads since he is not one and his dad took off when he was really little. Dave does love his Grandpa Hale, but he died a couple of years ago. So I tried to help out by telling him stories of my dad and Grandpas. He ended up telling the story of the day we got married and I was running late because the hairdresser was taking fooooooooorever. So Dave and my dad sat in the living room and watched the old '80's alien tv show V while they waited for us.
I can't wait for us to move to Utah and have more stories!

traveling

I saw this article on cnn.com this morning about traveling and relationships. It states, "One high-stress trip can result in a relationship flameout or the discovery of true love." I figure everyone already knows this. After Dave and I had been dating for three months we went on a weeks worth of day trips. On the first day we were on the beach in Wales when we decided we were going to get married. Recently we went to Paris and spent 24/7 with each other. And...I really liked being with Dave. It was fun just hangin' with him the whole time and having new adventures together. We should really do it more often, especially since we are so close to the rest of Europe.

If you are looking for crafting ideas you should definitely check out Handmade By Stacy Vaughn's blog! I think I will have to make this drawstring bag/game idea.
