Sterling W. Sill

My first Mission President (Armstrong) quoted Sterling W. Sill in a zone conference. Apparently Elder Sill had counted up all the topics in the Bible and found the most mentioned topic was the Second Coming. So recently I thought of reading Elder Sill's General Conference talks in the Gospel Library (the GL only has GC talks from 1971 to present):

April 1971 "Great Experiences"
October 1971 "Thou Shalt Not"
April 1972 "Medicine for the Soul"
October 1972 "Keep the Commandments"
April 1973 "Hold Up Your Hands"
October 1973 "A Fortune to Share"
October 1974 "Transfusion" *One of my favorites
April 1975 "Birth"
October 1975 "Success Stories"
October 1976 "To Die Well" *Another of my favorites
April 1978 "The Poetry of Success"

If you do a search on the church's website there are several references to Elder Sill.
Here is a list of his speeches at BYU.

Wikipedia says he was a General Authority from 1954-1978 and was born March 31, 1903 in Layton, Utah, which is near Hill Air Force Base. I was surprised to learn he didn't die until May 25, 1994 at aged 91. I was in my second year of college when he died. Too bad I didn't learn about him sooner.

Visit

I love it when my nieces and nephew come to visit!

They can't get enough of Grandma :)

I actually got them to be still enough for a picture!

We went to play at park.

PhD trip

I landed in Manchester (Air France lost my luggage) and headed to Blackpool for a DanceSport congress. I had to take a picture of the Preston train station just for my Mom. The line of ancestors my Mom has been researching are from Preston.

On the same day, from Blackpool I headed to Birmingham for the Imagine Dragons concert. Dave and I saw them in Oxford last year, but their showmanship is getting tons better!

During the week I took a day to go to London.

Of course I had to take a picture of the magic Platform!

Then I had dinner with Carla, my mission companion who lives in London. We ate at a fun restaurant in Leicester Square. Yes the chairs do swing!

The day after Thanksgiving I defended my PhD, then I headed back to Wanda's to pack my luggage (Air France finally sent my luggage to Wanda's) with the stuff Dave had left behind. I was sad I had to leave my wedding flowers behind.

Five Months of Updates

August
My former boss from grad school, Ron, retired in July, so I got a job. I just do his teaching responsibilities; Dance 230 Conditioning and Injury Prevention.
Dave had an interview with BYU housing, but he didn't get the job.

September
Dave finally decided to buy his plane ticket and move to America. His green card arrived in July. Then he had to sell our stuff or give it away in Walsall.

October
Dave arrived in Las Vegas, I drove down to pick him up and we spent the night there and drove up the next day since I had to work. This was the first time Dave had been without a job in a long time, so my Mom showed him all the websites to look at. It didn't take long for Dave to get three job offers. I always knew if he had an interview he would get a job!
We bought a car.

November
Dave started his job at Comcast. I went back to Walsall to defend my PhD.

December
We are still living with my parents, so it was fun to show Dave what all our Christmas traditions have been while I was going up especially since we have been in England the whole time we have been married. Dave was surprised at how many people were at the movies on Christmas, we saw Saving Mr. Banks.

My laptop...

My laptop... crashed August 1st, the day after I submitted my PhD thesis (or dissertation here in America). I didn't have my blogger password memorized, so last week it took me two hours to boot up my laptop to change my password and yesterday Dave was able to fix my laptop! Yeah to having a husband with real skills!
