All Alone In My Parent's House

My parents went to Idaho for Caimon's 3rd Birthday. I didn't get to go because of work, but my Mom took a bunch of videos with her new toy she got at Christmas. That meant I was all by myself at my parent's house for the whole weekend. I was pretty busy. Unfortunately I forgot my camera everywhere.
Friday night I went with my cousin Michelle to the Riverton Walmart for the midnight dvd release party for New Moon. Three of the humans in the film came to sign autographs, but the line was monster long. I got the Ultimate Fan Edition, which has the 7 minutes of Eclipse, but no deleted scenes. Does anyone have deleted scenes in the edition they bought?
Saturday was one of my friends from high school birthday and she wanted to go to the BYU Men's Volleyball game. I had a group of five close friends in high school and since I was living out of state I really didn't have any contact with them. But since November we have gotten back in contact. February was Melanie's birthday and March is Ann's. When I was a student athletic trainer I loved being in the training room when the Men's Volleyball team was there because they are pure eye candy. So I was glad that Ann wanted to go to the game so we could look at some fun eye candy. BYU won in three games, there wasn't very many people at the game because the basketball team lost to Kansas St on tv. Afterward we came to my house to eat cake and ice cream and play games. I did manage to take a picture of the cake after we ate some. I made it with two boxes of cake mix and two things of icing, so it was a big cake.

Sunday morning I hosted a breakfast (usually they do dinner, but this month they switched to breakfast) for some of the over 30's singles in my parents ward. I got up early (yeah, pretty difficult on a Sunday) and made two different kinds of muffins and my Grandma Jensen's wheat waffles. Then after church I went up to Aunt Sally's house to eat Sunday dinner, but we ended up at my cousin Kristin's house, which was fun because there were a bunch of little kids to play with. Her oldest is six years old and totally cute, I use to play with her when she was little while I lived near them. On the drive up the cake melted and ended up like this:

It still tasted good.
Monday was my last day covering for my friend Becky while she couldn't work because of back surgery, so she took me out to eat at the Blue Lemon in Highland. It was yummy.
I slept in this morning and now feel fully recovered from the weekend of being alone.

genealogy

My Mom has done genealogy since probably before I was born, therefore I learned to like it. Henry Louis Gates Jr has done another genealogy show, this one is called Faces of America. They do the research for some celebrity and then do a DNA analysis. It's pretty cool. Now NBC has their own genealogy show called "Who do you think you are?"
So, where are your ancestors from? Mine are from England, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, and Germany. One of my Dad's distant ancestors, Benjamin Twitchell, came to America from England in the 1630's but researchers cannot find which ship he came over on. One of my Mom's ancestors, John Perkins, joined the LDS church in the 1850's in Australia, but he is originally from England and no one has been able to go beyond his parents because they have such common names; George and Sarah Perkins. Have you had better luck?

National Athletic Training Month

March is National Athletic Training Month. So technically I should be writing my name as Teri Riding, MS, ATC and after I graduate with my doctorate I will be Teri Riding PhD, ATC. I have Athletic Trainer friends that have this at the end of every email:

Athletic trainers are medical professionals who are experts in injury prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation, particularly in the orthopedic and musculoskeletal disciplines.

I have previously blogged about what exactly an ATC is. In Utah and other states you have to be licensed with the state before you can practice as an ATC. The American Medical Association has recognized Athletic Trainers as a medical profession, which means we have obey the rules that other medical professions do, such as HIPAA. HIPAA is the law that says your doctor cannot tell your next door neighbor about your medical problems without your permission.
I was covering basketball games for my friend Kristin who is the ATC at Pleasant Grove High School while she was at the state wrestling tournament. The boys were in the 2nd OT when one of them sprained his ankle. After the game while I was putting all coolers and bottles away and cleaning up the training room numberous people would come up to me and ask me how he was. I realize this kid was probably a family friend or neighbor or whatever but because of HIPAA I cannot tell you what is wrong with him. I was just taken aback by how many people were asking me about the basketball player.
Since my friend Becky had surgery, I am covering for her at American Fork High School (AF and PG are in towns next door to each other). The first week I was there was the Girls State Basketball tournament. AF was the defending state champs. In the second game one of the star players got hurt. After the game a white haired lady stopped me and asked me how she was, in my head I was thinking "oh no not again", but it turned out she was the Grandma. With HIPAA I am allowed to tell family members about her injury, especially if they are under 18 to talk to the parents. Here are some pictures from the state tournament:
