Vice President

I have been emailing back and forth with one of my freshman roommates, Emily, about the election. Emily is really into politics, it is always fun to talk about it with her. So I had emailed her about McCain's VP selection speculation and Emily said it was going to be the Alaskan Governor. My first thought is, "who is that"? So I was completely shocked when McCain announced Sarah Palin the Alaskan Governor, but Emily was right, she is always right!

So I got to go to a Republican rally a couple of weeks ago where Mitt Romney spoke. Local politicians also spoke. I was disappointed that the locals didn't give reasons why I should vote for them besides being a Republican. I believe in voting for the person and not the party, so I wish they would have said why they were running for office.

Mom's Birthday # ?

It's my Mom's Birthday! If you ask her she will tell you she is 29 years old.

(at my Master's graduation at BYU in 2006, yes I am 4 inches taller than my Mother)

Gma's Mission Journal

So Aunt Sally typed up Grandma Jensen's mission journal. I stayed up Saturday night (yes, my date cancelled on me, but he had a good excuse) to read it. I was laughing, crying, etc, ... especially shocked at how many mission rules Grandma would have broken if she would have served now instead of in the 1940's. There is no way Grandma and Grandpa would have fallen in love nowdays!
(This is Grandpa and Grandma Jensen at the Cardston Temple, I think it is their wedding day, June 1947?)

sewing

I went to the Enrichment sewing class today. I made myself a apron to use when cooking! Yippee! I was so excited. I only did this because my Grandma Riding had a serious apron collection and when she died I never got any of them, but I am the 4th granddaughter on the Riding side. So now I am starting my own collection.

Grandma's letter

So recently, my Uncle Phil recieved an old letter from my Grandma Jensen to her family. Maybe I should back up. My Grandpa served in the Eastern Canada mission when Pearl Harbor happened. When he went back after WW2 for a vacation guess who was there...yep, Grandma was serving in the same mission. So my Grandma had to write home and tell her parents she was engaged. By the way, Grandpa was from Monticello, Utah and Grandma was from Sterling, Alberta. The letter that is my favorite is the one Grandma sent to her family after she recieved a letter from her family annoucing she was engaged. She was using words and terms that came straight out of Mayberry.

  • "He's really an ideal fellow, Mother, just the kind of a fellow you'd want me to marry."
  • "Quinn said his mother always made them help with the housework so he'll make somebody a lovely wife." Which is true, Grandpa did a lot of housework.
  • "He's such a swell fellow."
  • "Honestly, he's the grandest person."
  • "That would surely be swell."

I can't believe that people really did talk like that. Grandma Jensen died of cancer in January 1980. The letter sounds just like her only younger.
